Dear friends,
I'm Raymonde, and today I'd like to take you with me to Essaouira, that blue-and-white city swept by Atlantic winds, where I had the chance to sit alongside Berber weavers and discover the secrets of the Moroccan rug.
Here, every rug tells a story. In workshops tucked deep within the medina, women still weave by hand on vertical looms passed down through generations. The patterns are never chosen at random: protective diamonds, broken lines evoking the Atlas mountains, symbols of fertility... each rug is a silent language, a weaver's way of telling her own life, her joys, her sorrows.

The wool used here often comes from local flocks, washed and carded by hand before being dyed with natural pigments: henna for warm ochres, indigo for deep blues, cochineal for vivid reds. This ancestral know-how, unique to the Chiadma and Haha tribes of the Essaouira region, gives birth to one-of-a-kind pieces, irregular by nature and it's precisely that irregularity that gives them their charm.
Walking through the souks of Essaouira, breathing in the scent of freshly woven wool, listening to the clatter of the looms... it was an experience that touched me deeply. These rugs are not mere decorative objects: they are living works, carrying a culture and a craftsmanship I wish to honor through my shop.
I hope these few words have made you want to be enchanted, too, by the magic of the Moroccan rug.
I'm always happy to answer your questions by email.
Raymonde.
